5 Embarrassing Spa Faux Pas

Posted by support on Oct 10, 2013

Ambiance is everything at a day spa – some people schedule services just to enjoy the calming environment. There’s nothing worse than having your massage ruined by loud voices coming from another room. It’s impossible to relax and enjoy the feeling of hot stones on your back if you can hear a bachelorette party loudly laughing through their pedicure sessions a few rooms over. Here are five faux pas that will ruin the spa experience – for others, as well as yourself:

  1. Being Tardy. Treat your spa appointment like a dinner reservation and plan to arrive 15 minutes ahead of schedule. This way you can unwind, check out the spa’s other amenities and ensure you don’t feel rushed through the process.

  1. Leaving Your Phone On. If you’re at a spa, you should turn your phone off or put it on silent. Just because your phone is in a locker and you can’t hear it ringing doesn’t mean it’s not annoying somebody else!Girl Friends At A Spa

  1. Arriving Ungroomed. Don’t put off bathing and grooming because you knowyou’ll be enjoying a spa bath or pedicure – looking less than fresh could give your fellow spa-goers a bad impression of your personal hygiene.

  1. Arguing About Treatments. When scheduling a day at the spa with a friend, plan beforehand and agree on which treatments you’ll be enjoying together. This way, you won’t waste time or ruin the mood with a disagreement.

  1. Spreading Negativity. Even if you’re under a lot of stress, try to push negativity out of the picture while you’re spending time at the spa. Don’t loudly complain, and steer clear of stressful or upsetting conversation topics. Instead, smile and enjoy yourself! This will make it easier for your companion to do the same.

Unfortunately, even if you’re on your best behavior, there’s no promising your spa partner will be equally polite and graceful. If you’re getting a facial with your best friend or enjoying a massage with your sister, you may want to gently point out when she’s violating spa etiquette. When all else fails, lead by example – it’ll lead to a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
